Teen Driving and Summer Action Movies

Don't let the summer heat get to you and yours this summer if you have a teen driver behind the wheel of a car this summer, then be sure to read this article because it's an important reminder to go over the "driving ground rules" with your teen driver.

The summer movie theater is hopping with large feature films with everything from mutants to aliens to super spies to pirates and one thing most of these features have in common is they focus on heroes whether they have heroes or not. So what does this have to do with teen driving in the summer? Among these feature films include more than a few focusing on the need for speed.

Teen Drivers and The Need For Speed

Many of the cars used in these speed-obsessed movies are stripped down to be so light that they glide around without a lot of squealing and screaming of the tires. One might say teens will be teens, but films that feature speed as a centerpiece get the blood pumping and are a huge adrenaline rush for teen drivers. It's that very adrenaline you need to beware of when it comes to dealing with teen driving and safe driving.

Drivers education courses warn against the need for speed and the need to keep the cushion of safety around the vehicle. When your teen took a drivers education training whether it was a drivers education training class online, offline at a driving school or with you as a teacher, they should have learned about the reasons behind the speed limits.

Boring Much?

Of course, speed limits were not designed to be entertaining. Movies that feature fast driving as a major element of excitement encourage teen drivers to experiment. It is hardly surprising that the adrenaline flooding the system while watching these action movies can encourage impressionable teen drivers to emulate the actions. Although they are unlikely to strip their vehicles down (though some might) to make them light enough!

It is hardly a new sensation that someone wants to emulate a film they see. Who doesn.t want to sing and dance after watching a film about rock stars or musicals featuring hot dancers? When it comes to super spy work? It can be great to imagine bungee jumping off a building and coming to a tooth grinding halt just an inch or five above the ground. It's just that inexperienced teen drivers emulating stunt drivers is a recipe for disaster.

The Need for Speed

When it comes to driving fast, most teen drivers don.t need a movie to emulate or to encourage them. The flood of adrenaline that fills the body as the landscape flashes past at higher speeds is a thrill. Adrenaline floods the body during the fight or flight response. Action films bank on that rush of adrenaline to thrill their viewers to live their lives on the edge vicariously. But it's one thing to enjoy the thrill and the rush on the big screen and entirely another to take it to the next level and start experimenting on the streets.

Remember, when your teen violates the speed limits, they run the risk of getting a speeding ticket that could cost money, your teen could get into an accident, they could hurt themselves or worse — they could hurt or kill someone else. Remember it only needs to happen the first time in order for it to be the last time.
